With a population of currently around 12,000, Neuenrade is a small town in the northwest of South Westphalia and is part of Märkischer Kreis county. The town is over 600 years old and is located at the foot of the Kohlberg mountain in the upper Hönne valley. A densely wooded landscape surrounds the town with its districts Küntrop, Affeln, Altenaffeln and Blintrop.

Its favourable geographical location provides Neuenrade with a high residential and recreational value. It is a lively small town with a positive economic structure, based on small businesses and medium-sized companies. 

The surrounding towns and boroughs include Lüdenscheid, district town of the Märkische Kreis, and Iserlohn, both central ports of call with numerous attractive leisure and shopping activities, as well as Sundern, Plettenberg, Werdohl, Altena, Hemer and Balve.
