STAUFF Inline Safety Filter

STAUFF’s SFIS series of inline safety filters are precision-engineered protective filters for mobile and industrial hydraulic systems. They prevent particulate contaminants – such as those caused by frequent coupling of hydraulic hoses, maintenance work or external ingress – from reaching sensitive control, regulating and throttle valves. As the final stage of protection immediately upstream of critical components, they enhance operational reliability, extend the service life of the system and reduce unplanned downtime. The SFIS filters complement return, pressure and bypass filters and form an integral part of a comprehensive filtration concept.

The SFIS series of inline safety filters from STAUFF are precision-engineered protective filters for mobile and industrial hydraulic systems. They prevent particulate contamination – caused, for example, by frequent coupling of hydraulic lines, maintenance work or external ingress – from reaching sensitive control, regulating and throttle valves.
As the final stage of protection immediately upstream of critical components, they enhance operational reliability, extend the system’s service life and reduce unplanned downtime. SFIS filters complement return, pressure and bypass filters and form an integral part of a comprehensive filtration concept.

Materials and design

The filter housings are made of robust carbon steel and feature a highly durable zinc/nickel coating. This surface finish offers excellent corrosion protection and is ideal for demanding applications.
The sealing elements are manufactured from NBR (Perbunan®) as standard; other materials are available on request. The design is rated for operating pressures of up to 250 bar and offers additional stability thanks to the typical threefold safety factor.

Product variants, sizes and compatibility

The SFIS series comprises several sizes and versions for different connection configurations. Depending on the model, replaceable or non-replaceable filter inserts are available.
The star-shaped pleated filter elements increase the filter surface area and ensure lower pressure drops as well as a high dirt-holding capacity. In addition, variants with an integrated bypass valve are available for applications where the flow rate must be maintained even as the differential pressure rises.
The series can be flexibly integrated into existing systems – typically between couplings, hoses, manifolds or directly upstream of sensitive hydraulic valves.

Principle of operation

The flow always passes through the filter element from the outside in. The filter media consist of stainless steel wire mesh (1.4305) and are available in filtration grades of 60 µm and 100 µm.
As the fluid flows through, contaminants are reliably trapped on the filter surface before they can cause damage to the hydraulic system. As a result, the SFIS series acts as a targeted protective measure precisely where contaminants would be particularly critical.

Key product features

The SFIS series offers a combination of compact design, low weight and high robustness. Its construction allows for easy integration into confined installation spaces and is suitable for mobile machinery as well as stationary hydraulic power units.
The high contaminant-holding capacity of the filter elements extends maintenance intervals, whilst optionally available bypass variants ensure reliable operation even under demanding conditions.

Areas of application

SFIS inline safety filters are used in a wide range of mobile and stationary hydraulic systems. Typical applications include:

  • mobile attachments and tools

  • construction and agricultural machinery

  • Hydraulic maintenance equipment

  • industrial plants and units

  • Systems involving frequent coupling or changing attachments

Wherever contaminants can cause immediate malfunctions, SFIS filters provide an effective protective barrier.

Advantages of the SFIS series

The SFIS series combines high operational reliability with economic efficiency. The large filter element surface area, robust construction and flexible installation make it a tried-and-tested solution for demanding hydraulic applications.
Key benefits include:

  • reliable protection of sensitive control and regulating valves

  • long service life thanks to high dirt-holding capacity

  • low differential pressure due to star-shaped pleated elements

  • robust design for operating pressures up to 250 bar

  • easy retrofitting and integration into existing systems
