Noise and Vibration Reducing STAUFF NRC Clamps

STAUFF NRC clamps have been specially developed for the noise and vibration-damping installation of pipe and hose lines with common external diameters between 6 and 42 millimetres (for pipes) and between 38 and 55.7 millimetres (for hoses). The functional principle is based on a polypropylene clamp body based on the standard or heavy-duty series in accordance with DIN 3015 with a specially moulded, two-part elastomer insert that mechanically dampens vibrations in the pipe and minimises the resulting noise. This insert is characterised in particular by its small contact surfaces with the pipe and hose line and the clamp body, making it significantly more effective than previous solutions.

STAUFF NRC clamps - also known as "whisper clamps" or clamps with rubber inserts - are designed to minimise vibrations in pipelines and the resulting noise emissions. The two-part elastomer insert made of TPE achieves effective mechanical damping, which results in a noticeable reduction in noise. At the same time, the innovative design ensures a high holding force and easy installation in different systems.

Materials and surfaces

STAUFF offers NRC clamps in various materials and coatings to ensure maximum durability:

  • Clamp body: Made of black polypropylene (PP) for high stability and durability.

  • Elastomer insert: Made of TPE with a Shore hardness of 73 Shore-A for optimum vibration damping. Other degrees of hardness are available on request.

  • Metal parts: Optionally made of steel (phosphated or with STAUFF zinc/nickel coating) or stainless steel V2A/V4A for maximum corrosion resistance.

  • Special designs: Flame-retardant materials in accordance with international standards available on request.

Product variants and sizes

NRC clamps are available in different variants and dimensions:

  • Standard series: 7 sizes with diameters from 6 to 88.9 mm (1/4 to 3 1/2 inch).

  • Heavy-duty series: 6 sizes for the same diameter range.

  • Special versions: Also available as double, multiple or special clamps with NRC insert.

Installation options

The NRC clamps can be mounted flexibly and adapted to different installation situations. Different types of installation are recommended depending on the project and application. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. The various options are

  • Direct mounting

  • Mounting with welding plate

  • Mounting on mounting rails or profile rails

  • Surface mounting

Applications and areas of use

STAUFF NRC clamps - also known as clamps with rubber inserts - are suitable for numerous industrial and mobile applications:

  • Mobile and stationary machines: Particularly in harbour and loading areas as well as municipal and commercial vehicles.

  • Civil shipping: Ideal for use on cruise ships, yachts and pleasure craft.

Thanks to their effective vibration and noise damping, NRC clamps contribute to increased comfort and occupational safety.

Advantages and unique selling points

STAUFF NRC clamps offer numerous advantages over conventional clamps:

  • Specially moulded, two-part elastomer insert: Mechanical damping of vibrations for effective noise reduction.

  • Minimised contact surface to the pipe and clamp body: Higher damping efficiency than conventional solutions.

  • Flexible pipe diameters per clamp size: thanks to the inverted tongue and groove contour of the insert.

  • Combination of damping and holding force: Enables secure fastening without restricting functionality.

  • Compatible with DIN 3015: Existing clamps can usually be easily replaced.

Special features for specific industries

NRC clamps contribute to compliance with environmental and safety standards in various industries:

Mechanical and plant engineering:

  • Reduction of environmentally harmful noise emissions, especially in urban areas.

  • Increased safety and improved communication in the workplace.

  • Implementation of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the Outdoor Directive 2000/14/EC.

Shipping:

  • More flexibility when laying noisy cables.

  • Increased comfort and reduced noise pollution in cabins or machine rooms.

  • Reduction of underwater noise as a contribution to environmental protection.

Information on the test setup in the video

The vibrations of the pipe running horizontally in the background are transmitted to a base plate via a pipe clamp in the left-hand area. An adapter plate and sensors are installed between the pipe clamp and the base plate, rigidly connecting the two components. Containers filled with liquid on the pipe and the base plate illustrate the vibrations at the respective points.

In the video on the left, a STAUFF pipe clamp in the heavy-duty series in accordance with DIN 3015 (ribbed version with pretensioning) is used. The video on the right shows a STAUFF NRC type pipe clamp for preventive vibration and noise damping.

Installation and tools

Only a few tools are required to install the NRC clamps:

  • Open-end or open-end spanner to tighten the screws.

  • Optional welding tools for fastening base plates.

Certifications and standards

STAUFF NRC clamps fulfil the highest quality standards:

  • Customised approvals by renowned international OEMs.

  • Standardised: Available for DIN 3015 (part 1) for the standard series and DIN 3015 (part 2) for the heavy-duty series.
